True Patriot Love is the memorable phrase from Canada's national anthem. How do we interpret these words as Canadians? Transformed into a giant haiku poem, made from flowers & cut wood, it floats in a water-filled pond, revealing deeper meanings and revelations.

By having the words float individually, the dictionary meaning of each word will be highlighted:

True:
1. Conforming with reality or fact
2. Genuine, not pretended, insincere, or artificial
3. Showing loyalty to another person, cause, purpose, or religious belief

Patriot:
1. Somebody who proudly supports or defends his or her country and its way of life

Love:
1. An intense feeling of tender affection and compassion
2. A passionate feeling of romantic desire and sexual attraction
3. Somebody who is loved romantically

Chrysanne Stathacos is a multi-media artist who explores the obvious & subliminal connections between ritual actions, feminism, technology & environmental issues resulting in cross-cultural, hybrid art forms.

Slipstream, 2011

Cadillac Fairview has commissioned United Visual Artists to create Slipstream, a 135 meter long light sculpture for Toronto Eaton Centre. The great length and depth of the space, covered by an iconic glass vault, suggested a connection to the sky and natural light above, and the idea to capture the dynamic notion of flight.

70 Prisms comprise the work, suspended delicately in tension along the axis of the iconic galleria. Tensegrity wires hold the sculpture in place, their orientation echoing and extending the geometry of the prisms themselves. Each successive prism is rotated by one degree to create a single gesture of motion. Reflecting the movement of the sun throughout the day, the work comes to life at night as light animates from within, creating a momentum as impulses of light shift and stream throughout.

Established in 2003, United Visual Artists are an art and design practice based in London. UVA produce work at the intersection of sculpture, architecture, live performance, moving image and digital installation.

As a reflection of the impermanence of the human body and all that it encounters, a car�s parts are suspended in space becoming a drum kit propelled by the drummer�s amplified heartbeat. This vehicle is of the subterranean realm of things mysterious and hidden. It is interwoven with components of a drum kit and heralds what occurs below the threshold of consciousness like a newly formed neural pathway between states of transformation. Throughout the evening an eclectic mix of musicians animate this piece, fueled by the beat that everyone carries within.

Choreographed Dance Intervention

In the uncertainty of a moment, a choreographed swarm of renegade dancers take on the movements of a cheerleader, a rotary brush, a squadron leader, as they rush the cars in an alley to wash and encourage them along their way. Drawing from different dance forms with an emphasis on rotation and adapting movements for an urban setting, the choreography is animated by costumes that accentuate the dancers� spinning motions. The effect is a human like car wash without water or soap that defies any clear stance such as allegiance or betrayal.

Camilla Singh builds things faithfully to her ideas and not always to a recurrent medium or form and shares Catherine Opie�s view that ��its transgressive just to try to live your life the way you actually want to live it�. Singh left her role as Curator of Toronto�s MOCCA to experiment with materials in her studio and probe the questions that had formed around the experience of working in an office for decade. She is currently researching and producing a series of uniforms for curators called Uniforms for Non-Uniform Work which will comprise a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of York University in 2013.

New Dawn Fades utilizes light therapy technology to beckon a coming day with the rhythmic pulse of light. Emissions of varying wavelengths, construct, displace, and approximate the physiological essence of daylight in the absence of a true sun. Their cyclical transmission of a perpetual dawn signals the stutter of an impending future caught by a stasis in progress.

Michal Maciej Bartosik was born in Walbrzych, Poland. He studied Architecture at the University of Toronto School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, and at the Politechnika Krakowska in Krakow. His work spans his mutual interest in Urbanism, Architecture, Art and Design. Bartosik has exhibited internationally and his furniture designis represented by Klaus by Nienkamper.
