Cambio de Sentido (Change of Direction), 2015

Tercerunquinto - Mexico City , Mexico

Intervention

A street that runs from North to South changes its direction to the opposite sense, now running from South to North. The project includes the process and negotiations involved in dealing with municipal departments, to illustrate the complications and bureaucratic resistances to a change of this nature.

The project carries the additional symbolism - an attempt to change the relationship of political and economic power, which is currently exerted on the Pan-American continent from a North and South direction to a South and North one.

It is designed to be experienced by cars travelling incidentally in and out of the street during the night of the event.

Tercerunquinto, which can translate in English to 'a third of a fifth', is the collective project of Mexican artists Julio Castro Carreón, Gabriel Cázares Salas, and Rolando Flores Tovar.
