Night Flight, 2015

Michael Snow - Toronto, Canada
Claudio Caldini - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Video Installation

For Night Flight, Canadian artist Michael Snow invites Argentinean filmmaker Claudio Caldini to visit Toronto for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.

The result of this invitation is a single, uninterrupted 12 hour video of the filmmaker travelling overnight on a direct flight from Buenos Aires to Toronto to arrive in the city in time for event.

Travelling from South to North, through an uneasy relationship between stasis and movement, Night Flight, uses the dislocation of time and space to invite the public to think about how humans connect between time, distance and space.

Born in Toronto in 1928, Michael Snow’s career spans a wide range of media from sculpture to film to experimental jazz. Snow’s work has been included in countless group exhibitions, including the Venice and Whitney Biennial, as well as the Centre Pompidou, Paris and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Claudio Caldini has been making experimental films since 1970 and has deeply influenced the vibrant film scene in Argentina through his prolific film work and a legendary and long-standing Super 8mm workshop series in Buenos Aires.
