Film with Live Musical Accompaniment

The TIFF Cinematheque tradition of presenting a classic film from cinema's silent era with live musical accompaniment continues at this year's Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. Expect a twist on the regular musical score as you experience the live digital re-scoring of filmmaker Dziga Vertov's iconic, observational documentary, Man with a Movie Camera. Local artist Darren Copeland will masterfully set the everyday soundscape of Toronto in 2011 against Vertov's depiction of Moscow in the 1920s, in an attempt to return the film to its instinctive origins in the everyday sonic environment. By doing so, Copeland creates a new perspective on the sounds of our city: allowing the audience to re-experience Toronto through the ears and imagination of Dziga Vertov.
