Performance Art

In a durational project replete with human drama and competitive intrigues, audiences are invited to discover which of two artists will be first to witness every piece in Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. Tweeting along the way, the artists will attempt to view and critique every project over the course of the night - including their work, which forms the finish line.

Nuit Blanche offers art lovers a seemingly infinite choice of art over the course of one night. In Nuit Blanche Survey and Critical Race, Julian Higuerey Núñez and Henry Adam Svec aim to produce an exciting synthesis of this almost unseeable event.

As the night winds down and the race heats up, what will they distil of this exhausting event? Will speed and brawn ultimately serve them better than sound judgment? Mobile electronic devices, plugged into a large monitor at the finish line, will act as a live window onto this contest. Viewers will learn about the artists’ personalities, perhaps root for one or the other, or just take advantage of their indefatigable labour and hard-won opinions.

#racingforeverything

Julian Higuerey Núñez and Henry Adam Svec met at the Banff Centre in 2011. During a residency dinner, they had an argument about the performativity of physical and mental endurance. Their dispute was never resolved and developed into a six-week competition. Still at odds, they will engage in one final face-off for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.
