JR views art as ephemera where bits and pieces remain, or seem to anyway, sometimes minute, of what was fleeting, grandiose, fragile, essential and never permanent.

The physicality of his work is like an illustrated layer of skin that blends in with the material of the walls before time, the wind, the rain, or power-washing by authorities, bruises, tears and erases it.

In the middle of the busy downtown core and modern financial district, there is an old history, sometimes lost, sometimes present, that lies somewhere within it.

Using contemporary methods to engage an untouched space and time, participants are invited to enter 1822, in the home of Sir William Campbell and look out into the city.

One of the oldest buildings in Toronto, this site was relocated from its original waterfront location in 1972 to be saved from authorities who called for its demolition.

JR exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are typically not museum visitors. As he remains anonymous and doesn’t explain his large scale full-frame portraits of people making faces, JR leaves the space for an encounter between the subject/protagonist and the passer-by/interpreter.
